Conference & Lecture Grants

The Townsend Center welcomes proposals for conferences, lectures, or other larger-budget activities taking place at UC Berkeley.

In considering applications, priority will be given to proposals that directly involve Berkeley faculty and graduate students in the humanities. While proposals from all fields are welcome, special consideration will be given to submissions that coincide with any of the following areas of emphasis: The Humanities and the Public World; Communities of Scholars; and Critical Dialogues. In making awards, the Center will also take into account the desire to achieve an equitable distribution of awards among campus units; preference will normally not be given to ongoing activities, recurrent events, or meetings of professional societies.

Please download and return the application form which requests the following:

    1. an an application cover page,
    2. a letter-form description of the project and its significance,
    3. a proposed line-item budget
    4. a specific dollar request.

Save your document with the file name "CG0809.YOUR_LAST_NAME.pdf" and email it to townsend_applications@berkeley.edu with "Conference Grants" in the subject line. You may also print and mail it to the Townsend Center, however email is preferred.

Proposals will be considered only after the following deadlines:
