Stan Lai will present his 1992 award-winning film Peach Blossom Land, which was chosen to represent Taiwan at the 1993 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category. Lai wrote and directed this film adaptation of his most famous play, Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land and will be introduced by ARC Affiliate Sophie Volpp (Comparative Literature and East Asian Languages and Cultures).

Stan Lai (Lai Sheng-Chuan) earned his Ph.D. in Dramatic Arts at UC Berkeley in 1983 and is the author of thirty plays and a best-selling book on creativity. He has received Taiwan’s National Arts Award twice and has been inducted into the Chinese Theater Hall of Fame. Lai is a 2013 Avenali Resident Fellow in the Departments of Theater, Dance & Performance Studies.
