Mark Sandberg, Townsend Fellow

Mark Sandberg is Professor of Scandinavian and Film & Media. His work focuses on the visual and cultural history of 19th- and early 20th-century Scandinavia, with a particular emphasis on developments in the museum, theater, and film cultures of the period. Professor Sandberg’s publications include Living Pictures, Missing Persons: Mannequins, Museums, and Modernity (2003); “Mastering the House: Performative Inhabitation in Carl Th. Dreyer’s The Parson’s Widow” in Northern Constellations: New Readings in Nordic Cinema; “The Architecture of Forgetting” (Ibsen Studies, 2007), and “The Interactivity of the Model Home," in History of Participatory Media: Politics and Publics, 1750-2000 (2010).  His current research projects include a book on Henrik Ibsen's architectural uncanny, a multi-volume regional history of Nordic literary cultures, and a new comparative project on cinematic location.
