John Paulas

Fellowships and Special Projects

John Paulas, Director of Fellowships and Special Projects, oversees the Townsend Center's grants, fellowships, and workshops for UC Berkeley students, faculty, and research professionals. He works closely with Center and campus leadership on the development, administration, and strategic planning of projects such as Art of Writing and Course Threads. After receiving his PhD in Classics from the University of Chicago, John taught at several US colleges and universities. His scholarly publications consider Greek literature of the Roman Empire and literary and scientific discourse on food in Greek and Latin texts. John is affiliated with the Berkeley Food Institute and is a member of the advisory board of Beyond Academia, a PhD career exploration and development organization led by Berkeley students.
