The Working Group on Aesthetics provides a forum for connecting scholars in Philosophy, History of Art, Architecture, Art Practice, and other disciplines to issues in aesthetic theory. Each year, meetings will be organized around a broad theme, explored through discussions of texts and talks by invited speakers. For the first year, the theme will be the concept of style. Meetings will cover topics such as the relationship between the stylistic and representational features of an object, the way in which style can be a manifestation of historical period, cultural context, or personality, and the question of whether there is a role for style in sensory perception. The continuing goal of the group is to enrich each of the domains of scholarship it brings together by providing exposure to the methodology and findings of the others.
