Foundations of Literary Theory and Cultural Criticism

This working group reads and discusses texts that are foundational to contemporary theories of literature, culture, and identity politics, including the most prevalent works of poststructuralism, psychoanalysis, gender theory, reader response theory, postcolonial theory, and critical theory. It also engages with some of the important texts that have historicized or synthesized those movements. Currently existing working groups tend to focus on contemporary research within a specific theoretical field, but FLTCC would like to provide graduate students the opportunity for profound, sustained engagement with theory’s fundamental (and often most difficult) thinkers.
