Damon Young’s current book project, "Century of the Selfie," explores the imbrications of media formats, economic systems, psychic life, and subjectivity itself. In the 21st century, the selfie emerges as a ubiquitous, indeed quotidian, form of self-representation — indexing a culture of self-obsession that arises in tandem with the increasing dominance of a non-representational, algorithmic culture. The book situates the emergence of the networked self in a genealogy of modern media forms, and forms of selfhood.
