Seed grants are available to small groups of UC Berkeley faculty (4-5) to pursue collaborative research ideas that are not yet ready for major external funding.
Encouraging conversations across departmental and even divisional boundaries, these awards foster collaboration, creativity, and risk-taking research among the diverse scholars, genres, and disciplines of the humanities.
Some of these projects may be eligible to apply for multiyear Townsend Center funding, while others may be developed to attract appropriate external funds.
A limited number of awards will be made on a rolling basis.
UC Berkeley faculty who are interested in this program are encouraged to submit a letter of inquiry including (1) a brief description of the project — no more than 1,000 words; (2) the names of confirmed participants (not to exceed five); (3) any internal or external funding received for the project thus far; (4) a work plan and timeline; and (5) a general budget.
Awards not to exceed $10,000.
