David Moshfegh earned his Ph.D. in History from UC Berkeley. His dissertation placed the advent of the “Science of Islam” (Islamwissenschaft) within the nineteenth-century European context of Protestant and Jewish reformists who competitively historicized and idealized their respective traditions. In conjunction with his work in European history, he has undertaken significant research on the trajectory of religious minorities in Islamic history. As an IE-Berkeley International Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on European intellectual history, modern political theory, the history of international relations, and critical thinking for masters business students.
