This study established a working definition of what it is to be a "gifted" child. Birdsong researched the development of testing methods used to identify and categorize "gifted" children. By exploring both their medical background and the social stigmas placed on “gifted” children, the study clarified the nature of the relationship between the medical categorization and the stigma.
