Found in Translation
The Found in Translation (FIT) working group welcomes a diverse group of members from the campus community — undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff, program administrators and visiting scholars — interested in a wide range of topics related to language. While the group's name specifically references translation, this is just one of the many topics of interest to FIT. The group hosts a series of guest lectures, ranging from formal presentations to works-in-progress or informal discussions of data, that cover such topics as language and identity, instruction in language and culture, multilingualism, language policies, linguistic landscapes and the presence of minority languages in public space, and language contact, among others.
Formed in 2011, the working group grew out of an official blog of the Berkeley Language Center, which was created in 2007. The blog offers a space for members and non-members alike to share their thoughts or continue the conversation following presentations.
FIT is co-sponsored by the Townsend Center and the Berkeley Language Center.
