A lecture and forum with Mark Lilla, Professor of Humanities at Columbia University and one of America’s leading intellectual historians and writers on current events.

Lilla’s new book, The Once and Future Liberal: After Identity Politics, has sparked a vigorous national conversation about how liberals need to articulate a new vision centered around ideas of common citizenship in order to counteract the destructive individualisms of both right and left that are hollowing out our political life. Professor Emerita Arlie Hochschild (Sociology) will introduce and co-moderate this discussion.

Sponsored by The Institute of Governmental Studies, in association with the Center on Civility and Democratic Engagement, the Townsend Center for the Humanities, and BridgeUSA at Berkeley.
