The Musical Origins of Contemporary Affect Theory

Roger Mathew Grant
Geballe Room, 220 Stephens Hall

Roger Mathew Grant (Wesleyan University) is a scholar of 18th century music theory and author of Beating Time and Measuring Music in the Early Modern Era. He is currently a fellow at the Stanford Humanities Center.

Grant's talk is part of the UC Berkeley meeting of the Musical Pasts Consortium. Aimed at giving the study of music a more prominent role in scholars' approach to the past, the Consortium, supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, is a collaboration among humanities centers at three American universities (UC Berkeley, University of Chicago, and Yale University), along with King's College London. Grant is the first of two invited speakers.
