Entering the English Department with a B.A. in English, cum laude with highest honors, from Grove City College, Pennsylvania, Christopher Jensen brings a love of satire to his study of eighteenth-century literature. While an undergraduate, Jensen used his literary sensibility to subversive effect at his conservative Christian college—writing a satirical play, for instance, in which the characters worshipped Christopher Robin as the only begotten son of A. A. Milne, which he managed to slip past the college censors. He plans to maintain this interest at Berkeley as he engages with the great eighteenth-century English-language satirists. Zabet Patterson, a Ph.D. candidate in Rhetoric and a 2004–2005 Townsend Fellow, will be his mentor.
