Interdisciplinary Approaches to Early Modern Political Thought

Group Coordinators

The Interdisciplinary Approaches to Early Modern Political Thought working group focuses on the history of political thought in the early modern period (c. 1400-1800), with particular attention to how politics intersected with different conceptions of human nature and cultural diversity. We read and discuss both primary texts — from canonical to lesser-known sources — and new secondary work, including work in progress by the group’s members. Our approach is interdisciplinary, combining perspectives from history, literature, and legal and political theory.
