Eric Karpeles, author of Almost Nothing: The 20th-Century Art and Life of Józef Czapski, is a Fellow of the Czesław Miłosz Institute at Claremont-McKenna College. Karpeles has received wide acclaim for bringing public attention to Polish artist, intellectual, and army officer Józef Czapski, who was deeply engaged in the fight against totalitarianism. Karpeles is the also the translator of Czapski’s Lost Time: Lectures on Proust in a Soviet Prison Camp.

Robert Hass (English) joins Karpeles to discuss Czapski, a writer, painter, diplomat, prisoner of war, and historical witness to some of the 20th century’s major events.
