Yonatan Binyam is at work on a book project entitled "Imagining Racism in Antiquity," which intervenes in recent scholarly debates over the meaning and applicability of modern categories such as ethnicity, race, racism, and antisemitism in studies of the ancient world. Utilizing three ancient texts written in Greek and Ge'ez (or Ethiopic), he makes the case that comparative narrative analysis mitigates the shortcomings of categorical approaches to analyzing group identities in the premodern world.
