Why return to the Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci? In a time of authoritarianism and environmental crisis, we turn to a thinker who faced Fascism directly, by thinking across disciplines and genres, from the critique of political science to detective fiction. Along with revisiting Gramsci’s writings through the lenses of philology and close reading, we consider the categories Gramsci developed in the Prison Notebooks in relation to current conversations about Marxism, racism/sexuality, revolution, environmental struggle, and more.
